Update on the Pelican Bay Community Park Pickleball Project:
Modeling is still being conducted for the sound mitigation. This will determine how high the concrete wall for sound mitigation needs to be.
The bid phase is almost done.
The concessionaire who used to operate the tennis courts is gone now. The Pelican Bay Foundation has taken over maintaining and operating the tennis courts.
Construction is expected to begin in early summer.
The Pelican Bay Foundation (PBF) recently received the results from a sound study. Two fountains will be added to the pond between the park and the Breakwater condos to dampen sound. A concrete wall will be constructed between the pickleball courts and the softball/soccer field to dampen sound to the Avalon condos.
The PBF is working with architects and civil engineers and expects to have the project's bid package complete by the end of April. The project will be put out for bids in May.
Outline of the pickleball court area has been marked by stakes in the park. Construction is estimated to begin in early summer and should take 6-9 months.

Our petition to add an amendment to the 30 year contract to guarantee 50% public access to the pickleball courts was presented to the Board of County Commissioners
We met with the County Manager to discuss the need to add an amendment to the 30 year contract to guarantee 50% public access to the pickleball courts.
We submitted a proposal to present a public petition before the Board of County Commissioners. The petition asked for an amendment to the 30 year contract to guarantee 50% public access to the pickleball courts.
Our attorney submitted a letter to the County requesting an amendment to the 30 year contract to guarantee 50% public access to the pickleball courts.
We met with the County to present a proposed amendment to guarantee 50% public access to the pickleball courts. The proposed amendment: "Members of the public shall have access to 50% of the pickleball courts during the same days and hours as members of the foundation."
The 30 year contract for the Pickleball Project was approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
At the County's request, public player fees will follow Collier County Parks and Recreation fee policy. East Naples Pickleball fees are $5 per day & $50 per year. Fee increases will need to be approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
Our Advisory Group notified the County that the proposed contract did not guarantee the public 50% access to the pickleball courts as was promised. We urged the County to revise the 30 year contract before the vote on 8/22/23. The contract was not revised.
The proposed contract for the Pickleball Project was posted on the County website in advance of the Board of County Commisioners meeting on 8/22/23. The promised guarantee that the public would have access to 50% of the pickleball courts was absent from the 30 year contract.
Several public meetings about the project were held. At each meeting, the public was promised access to 50% of the pickleball courts.
The proposed Pickleball Project was first presented to the public at the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meeting. The proposal promised that the public would have access to 50% of the pickleball courts.
